Graduation celebrations

The Class of 2010 celebrated their graduation May 7-10. The grad class had chosen a theme of seasons and used, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecc. 3:1) as their theme verse. The seasons were scattered around the campus. The banquet was held in the chapel which was decorated as summer. The courtyard was spring, the entrance to the gym was decorated as fall complete with a giant tree losing its leaves. Moving from fall into the gym, you entered winter. It was a lovely theme and the class did a very good job of bringing it all together. Graduation weekend was a marvellous time to reflect on being part of the family of God and fondly considering the growth in each of the graduating students.

On Friday night, the class gathered for a barbecue at a student's home. On Saturday, a formal class photo was taken followed by a graduate and parent banquet. After the banquet, everyone assembled in the gym for the Grand March and Talent Show. During the Grand March, each graduate was introduced by name along with a statement about their future plans. On Sunday morning, we gathered for a worship service and in the afternoon, the graduation ceremony with the graduates dressed in cap and gown. We were blessed to have many family and friends on campus for the weekend, including some who traveled great distances. On Monday morning, having said their good-byes to visiting family and friends, the class once again dressed in their formal wear and went to the Grad Breakfast. In June, the class will gather with the staff for one more graduation event - the Grad Tea.

Concert Choir returns from Easter Tour

The Concert Choir returned this week from a week long tour through Saskatchewan and Alberta. The choir performed eight full concerts in seven days including Saskatchewan stops in Archerwill, Davidson, Kindersley, Eatonia and Saskatoon. Alberta stops included Medicine Hat, Calgary and Camrose. The choir had a wonderful week, meeting and staying with people in each host church. Enthusiastic audiences were a blessing and encouragement to the choir. During each concert, five students shared about their experience at LCBI from different persepctives: live, learn, play, serve and worship, sharing examples as to how each of those areas is lived out on our campus. In Medicine Hat, the choir took the opportunity to spend a morning in a service project with "Prairie Gleaners". This ministry agency collects donated vegetables which have been deemed "unsellable" and would otherwise end up in the landfill. The group prepares the vegetables for dehydration, ultimately packaging soup mixes which are sent to help in areas of crisis and famine. The next 16 shipments from this location are intended for the people of Haiti. The choir enjoyed their morning cleaning and drying vegetables and were blessed to know that their efforts will help others. The choir will continue rehearsals as they now prepare for the Outlook and District Music Festival and their year end concert at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Outlook on Tuesday, June 15.

Bison Basketball wins provincial bronze

After earning a spot as one of the top 2A boys teams in the province, the LCBI Bisons were in provincial competition this weekend at Hoopla. The first game on Friday night was against the quick and talented team from Christian Center Academy in Saskatoon. In two meetings earlier this season, CCA was able to win with a lead of 50. The Bisons came out strong and held the game to within a few points until the fourth quarter when CCA charged ahead. The Bisons played very well and the fan support from students, family and alumni made for stands filled with excitement and pride. In the bronze medal game on Saturday, the Bisons faced the team from Regina Christian School. Once again it was an excellent and challenging game with LCBI finishing on top to win the bronze medal. Congratulations Bisons on an excellent season and provincial win!

Mission Teams Return from ministry weeks

During the February break, two teams of students and staff travelled to very different locations in North America to be of service and learn in a cross-cultural environment. A team of 16 students and 4 adults travelled to Mexico to serve with Foundation For His Ministry - an orphanage and outreach center on the Baja Peninsula. Daily work assignements at the mission, meeting, spending time with and playing with the children living at the orphanage and two evangelistic outreaches to local villages filled their time with challenges, learning and opportunities for God to reveal Himself to each team member. A second team made up of 12 students and four adults plus the young son of two of the chaperones spent their time in the inner city of Vancouver. The Vancouver team assisted in the work of established ministries on the lower east side of Vancouver, helping in soup kitchens, clothes distribution and meeting and praying with those who live their lives in urban poverty. As the team's visit to Vancovuer coincided with the 2010 Olympics, the team was invited to take part in a large scale outreach called "Go For The Gold" which provided hot coffee and opportunity for prayer to the countless international visitors to our nation. Both teams were deeply impacted by their experiences and all that God accomplished in and through them during their missions.

Lady Bisons win provincial soccer bronze

In a weekend of soccer provincial soccer competition in Outlook, the Lady Bisons came away with the bronze medal. The Lady Bisons are thrilled to be medal holders but their time in the tournament included some heartache and frustration. In their game against Outlook High School on Friday, the two teams battled hard for victory. OHS showed they have been training hard and our girls may have been affected by more than a week away from the field due to illness. It was a difficult loss, with the game ending 7-6 in a shoot out. On Saturday, the Lady Bisons were prepared to play hard and win their bronze medal. With the failure of the other team to show up to play, we were awarded our medal by default. The bronze medal clearly recognizes a strong season but it felt like an anti-climactic way to earn the placing. We congratulate the Lady Bisons on an excellent season and the recognition of provincial placing!
